Toronto – June 7, 2011 – Toronto-based Sysmex Canada, Inc. today announced exclusive eight-year Vendor Supply and Capital Equipment Service Agreements with Diagnostic Services of Manitoba. “Sysmex technology will allow DSM to standardize hematology instruments, reagents, training, services and support for the public laboratories within its network,” said Carl Rocha, General Manager, Sysmex Canada, Inc. Vendor selection was based on Sysmex’s instrument reliability, flexible middleware, and multi-site standardization capability. Professional recommendations from the Product Evaluation Committee consisting of the Hematopathology Discipline Team, Carmen Morales, MSc, MD, FRCPC, Medical Director and Gail Turnbull, ART, Technical Director, as well as charge technologists, regional site managers from high-volume urban sites and mid-to-low-volume rural sites and Amin Kabani, MD, FRCPC, FAAD, MBA, DSM Chief Medical Officer, were key factors in the 16-month vendor selection process. Diagnostic Services of Manitoba is a not-for-profit corporation responsible for all of Manitoba’s public laboratory and rural diagnostic imaging services. DSM, which provides services at 79 sites across Manitoba, processes approximately 14.5 million lab tests annually.
“As a provincial organization, standardization is integral to DSM’s ability to ensure consistent service excellence across all of our urban and rural sites. The Sysmex Hematology Analyzers address the scope of DSM’s provincial operations and will better enable DSM to provide consistent hematology reporting,” said Turnbull. “The Sysmex Hematology Analyzers offer solutions for DSM’s immediate and long-term Hematology service needs,” she added. Implementation of a centralized middleware system, Sysmex WAM, enables standardization of Complete Blood Counts (CBCs) and White Blood Count (WBC) differential review and reporting for the 65 DSM sites located throughout urban and rural Manitoba, that perform Hematology testing.
